    Frequently Asked Questions

What forms of payment do you accept?

We gladly accept Cash, Credit, Debit and Zelle.

Do you offer a cash discount?

Yes! We offer a 5% cash discount.

Do you offer Military, First Responder or Educator Discounts?

Absolutely, North State Hauling provides an additional 5% off to our veterans, first responders and educators.

    When is payment due?

Every job is expected to be paid in full before we leave your property.

Why does my confirmation say 7am-8am?

If your confirmation text/email states your window of arrival is 7:00am-8:00am, don’t worry. We are not coming at 7:00am. This is just a placeholder for contactless/driveway pickups.

Driveway pickups are completed during normal business hours with no definitive 2 hour window like our full service appointments come with.

Do I need to be present if I chose the curbside pickup option?

Not at all! We will call you upon arrival to firm everything up then get everything hauled away with no intrusion to your daily schedule.

How does your pricing compare to other companies servicing Brentwood, CA?

At North State Hauling, we take pride in our ability to provide a transparent and competitive pricing model. Our prices are often 20-40% lower than our (1800) Junk Franchise competitors. Simply put, we’re locally owned in Brentwood, CA and not a Franchise so we pass the savings onto you!

Should I expect sales tax on my invoice?

No, we do not charge Brentwood sales tax as we are providing a service.

Will my service lead arrive at the beginning of the window?

Unless otherwise noted, our full service appointments are made on a two hour window for arrival. Our service leads will send you an ETA text when they are on their way from their previous job so that you know when to expect them within the 2 hour window.

May I tip my service lead?

While not required, our service leads always appreciate any gratuity and you may either tip them in cash or select an amount on our credit card processer.

    Does everything go to landfill?

No, we take pride in our ability to recycle and donate as much as possible. At the very worst case, we’ll use a transfer station where recyclable materials are sorted for landfill divergence.

    What is your cancellation/change policy?

We require a 48 hour notice for cancellations and scheduling changes unless otherwise noted. Last minute cancellations are subject to a $149 cancellation fee.

We’re a small business and we respect our customers schedules; we ask that our schedule is respected as well so that we can fully meet the demands of our clients. Last minute cancellations not only take away from other potential customers scheduled, but you’re leaving us responsible for hourly wages of the scheduled leads.

Are you fully licensed and insured?

Yes! We carry all proper licenses and insurance ranging from commercial auto, workers comp, general liability, motor carrier permit, etc.

What areas do you offer piano removal services in?

North State Hauling provides professional piano removal throughout the Bay Area, including Contra Costa, Alameda, and Solano Counties. Our most common service areas include Brentwood, Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley, Concord, Walnut Creek, Discovery Bay, Richmond, Berkeley, and surrounding cities.

If you’re unsure whether we service your location, simply reach out with your ZIP code and we will confirm availability.

What types of pianos can you remove?

We remove nearly every type of piano, from small uprights to large grand pianos. This includes:

    • Upright pianos

    • Console and studio pianos

    • Spinet pianos

    • Baby grand pianos

    • Full grand pianos

    • Antique or non-functioning pianos

Every piano is handled with extreme care. After pickup, we prioritize donating or recycling the piano whenever possible to avoid unnecessary waste.

How does your piano removal process work?

Our piano removal process is designed to be simple, safe, and stress-free.

    1. We begin with a free estimate, typically using photos and details about access, stairs, and the piano type.

    2. On arrival, our team protects your home, assesses the safest route, and prepares any necessary equipment.

    3. We move or dismantle the piano as needed, using years of experience and professional tools to ensure safety.

    4. We load and haul the piano, prioritizing donation or recycling to keep usable materials out of local landfills.

You don’t need to lift a finger—our crew handles everything from start to finish.

How do you protect my home and flooring during piano removal?

Every home and every piano is different, so we adjust our approach based on the situation. We take great care to protect delicate flooring, walls, doorways, and hallways. This may include:

    • Laying down plywood sheets on sensitive or delicate flooring

    • Using heavy-duty, professional-grade dollies

    • Protecting corners and narrow passageways

    • Planning the safest route before moving anything

Our goal is to remove the piano safely while leaving your home in perfect condition.

What happens to a piano after removal?

Once we remove your piano, we always aim to donate or recycle it before considering disposal. If one of our donation partners or community organizations can accept the piano, we’ll deliver it to them.

If donation is not possible due to condition or current partner needs, we break down the piano and recycle as many components as possible, including:

    • Metal hardware

    • Harp frames

    • Wood

    • Key materials

This eco-conscious approach keeps pianos out of landfills whenever possible.

    Can my piano be donated?

Donation depends on the piano’s condition and the needs of our donation partners at the time of pickup. If a partner is actively accepting pianos and your piano meets their requirements, we are happy to donate it.

If donation is not possible, we take the piano apart and recycle the materials, ensuring it stays out of the landfill whenever we can.

Are you licensed and insured for piano removal?

Yes. North State Hauling is a fully licensed and insured junk removal company with years of experience handling heavy and delicate items. Our coverage protects both your property and our team throughout the piano removal process, giving you total peace of mind.

How much does piano removal cost?

Piano removal pricing varies based on several factors, including the piano’s size, accessibility, stairs, distance to the exit, and whether dismantling is needed.
    We offer:

    • Free, no-obligation estimates

    • Upfront, transparent pricing

    • Competitive local rates

    • No hidden fees

Most estimates can be provided quickly using photos and a few details about the piano’s location.

Do I need to prepare anything before piano removal?

There’s very little you need to do beforehand. Clearing a pathway is helpful but not required—our team can move small items if needed. You do not need to prepare, disassemble, or wrap the piano in any way.

Simply let us know about any access concerns such as stairs, tight corners, or narrow hallways, and we’ll bring the right equipment.

Can you remove a piano from upstairs or a tight space?

Yes. We frequently remove pianos from upstairs rooms, basements, tight hallways, and complex layouts. Our team is trained to navigate challenging spaces safely and efficiently.

If necessary, we can partially or fully dismantle the piano to ensure a safe and damage-free removal.

How quickly can you schedule piano removal?

We offer fast scheduling with options for same-day or next-day piano removal depending on availability. Because we are a locally owned company—not a franchise—we can often schedule more flexibly and accommodate urgent requests.

Do you offer free estimates for piano removal?

Yes. We provide fast, free, no-pressure estimates for all piano removal jobs. You can send photos for a quick quote, and we always confirm the final price in person before any work begins.
